Progressive Kindergarten Program

The St. Thomas Kindergarten curriculum is based upon the Common Core standards using both a theme-based approach coupled with supplemental materials and hands-on learning. Our Kindergarten classrooms are engaging environments where students become exposed to math, language, reading, foreign language, prayer, art, and music as a regular part of their day. These subjects are carefully balanced with monitored free time allowing students to explore different activities and modes of learning. Most importantly, our teachers create projects and activities to make learning fun for our Kindergartners. From the annual “Q & U” wedding ceremony to the celebration of the 100th day of school, our Kindergarten classrooms are simply an exciting place to be!

One of our goals at St. Thomas is to individually get to know your children and help them identify and grow their many gifts. One way we do this is by administering the MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) test to all kindergartners in the fall, winter, and spring. This computer assessment allows us immediate feedback and helps us to better formulate and adapt our program to meet both the individual and classroom needs. In kindergarten particularly, we recognize that we can have great diversity in skills, and therefore, it is our job to differentiate our program and make certain that it is best suited for our learners.

The St. Thomas legacy ensures that children are provided an exceptional early education in a friendly, fun, and nurturing environment. Our focused 3 and 4 year old pre-K programs and our smaller kindergarten classrooms are unique to the Peoria area ensuring that your child receives the special attention he or she deserves. We invite you to experience this special time in your child’s education at St. Thomas School, where together, we’re building the leaders of tomorrow.
